You surely know the situation: You are riding your bike in the city and suddenly realize that the tires urgently need air. But the air pump is of course at home. Even minor damage, such as a torn out mudguard, can become a real nuisance. Against this, the city of Frankfurt now wants to offer the necessary help bit by bit.
For just such cases, the Office of Road Construction and Development on Wednesday, October 24, two new bicycle repair stations in operation. Both are located in prominent places: One at Konstablerwache in the direct vicinity of the well-used bicycle parking facility, another in Bockenheim at the corner of Leipziger Straße and Markgrafenstraße.
"Bicycles can quickly be damaged in everyday life. In this way, we want to help citizens quickly and thus provide a bit more safety," commented Michaela Kraft, Head of the Office for Road Construction and Development, on the commissioning.
The station on Leipziger Straße was already in place and has now been replaced. The two stations join those already in place at Hauptwache, Merianplatz, Musterschule, Schweizer Platz and Niederurseler Landstraße 164.
The "Scandic Door" model from the Ibombo company has various tools. Screwdriver, hexagonal wrench set, open-end wrench, roller fork wrench - everything is ready for quick use. A tyre lever and a pump complete the range. A set costs around 1000 euros. The use is free of charge. However, a deposit with a 50 cent, 1 or 2 euro coin is necessary to get access to the tools.
The station features plastic that is resistant to severe weather and safe, high-quality rubber. At the station, cyclists will find a QR code that allows them to access repair instructions online.
But it's not just cyclists who benefit from the tools at Konstablerwache: the tools and air pump at the station are also suitable for wheelchairs and prams.
