(ffm) The Bolongaropalast is still a large construction site. But the renovation of the listed building in Höchst is progressing - and with it the plans for a new museum. Ideas for what this might look like were presented by Mayor Peter Feldmann and Head of the Department of Culture Ina Hartwig on Tuesday, June 4. "The Bolongaropalast should be a living house for all citizens," says Feldmann. "I am very happy that the ideas once developed in planning workshops can now be realized together with the Bolongaro Culture and Museum Association and the Historical Museum." The museum is an invitation not only for the Höchster, he said, it will radiate far beyond the district: "The focus will be on conveying history - in a place steeped in history and for a broad audience: from home enthusiasts to our schoolchildren."
The plan is to move the Porcelain Museum - a branch of the Historical Museum in Höchst - from the Kronberger Haus to the Bolongaro Palace. Ina Hartwig, Head of the Department of Culture, said: "The merger of the Porcelain Museum and the Civic Museum offers a unique opportunity not only to present the porcelain collection in a new way, but also to realize the concept for a Bolongaro Museum developed by the Bolongaro Cultural and Museum Association in close cooperation with the Historical Museum. I am glad that the Historical Museum and the Museum Association have agreed to develop a joint exhibition concept."
The sponsor of the planned museum in the Bolongaro Palace is to be the Historical Museum. Its director, Jan Gerchow, is convinced: "The new porcelain museum will be much more attractive, for citizens as well as for tourists - and we can present this part of Höchst's history in connection with the history of the western parts of the city. I look forward to working with the association."
This also applies to Markus Grossbach, chairman of the Bolongaro Culture and Museum Association: "A good year ago, we presented our concept to the public. The Bolongaro Museum is to be a cultural place for Höchst's history and the experienced present with a view to the future," he said. Among other things, he said, it will show how Höchst and the western districts of Frankfurt could become a "home" for the population that had immigrated to the city centuries ago. The guiding principle for the founding of the museum association, he said, was Hilmar Hoffmann's catchphrase "Culture for All".
The museum is scheduled to open no later than 2022, following the completion of the Bolongaro Palace.The future of the Kronberg House has not yet been decided.
