Today the time had finally come: After 16 years have passed since the first application, a suitable location was finally found and thus also the application was approved that Ginnheim gets its own weekly market. From now on, traders will be offering their wares every Thursday at the REWE car park at Ginnheimer Landstr. 164. There is space for a total of ten market stalls on the site, which is just under 400 square metres in size. For the organiser, HFM Managementgesellschaft für Hafen und Markt mbH, this is now the 19th weekly market in the Frankfurt city area.
Fruit and vegetables are available at this market, as well as bread, sausage and meat, cheese and delicious delicatessen. A vintner's stand also invites you to linger over a glass of good wine. The reception at the first noon was good. Retiree Hanne N., for example, was very pleased with the market: "At last I no longer have to travel the long way to Bockenheim to get fresh produce from the market," she said, tasting her way through the rich selection at the cheese stand. Student Wiebke S. (23) is also happy about the small market right on her doorstep: "For me, it's a welcome change from shopping in the supermarket. Because honestly, I always plan to shop at the weekly market, but then ultimately opt for the supermarket because it's just closer." But she also enjoys the direct contact with the traders and the good quality of what is on offer.
No wonder, then, that City Councillor Markus Frank and local councillor Rachid Rawas and market initiator Christiane Loizides are also very pleased that they were finally able to open this market today after quite a few hurdles - in the hope that it will be well received by residents in Ginnheim and become another permanent fixture in Frankfurt's market scene.
From now on, the Ginnheim weekly market will take place every Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Ginnheimer Landstraße north of Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße.
