It is always a great joy when the zoo can announce offspring. In the case of 28-year-old lowland gorilla lady DIAN, who gave birth to twins on 01 March, the happy news was marred by the death of one of the cubs. The second child, a little girl, was also very weak after birth. Therefore, the nurses in charge decided to separate mother and daughter. For four days, the little gorilla baby was nursed in close proximity to its mother and was stabilized relatively quickly. In the following days, Dian and her daughter were reunited, but still left outside the enclosure to ensure they got the rest they needed.
Meanwhile, mother and daughter are doing well and were brought to the group around silverback Viatu, the girl's father, today. Here the two were accepted without any problems. Now the cute offspring can be admired by the zoo visitors. But that's not all the good news, because the neighbours, the bonobos, have also had an offspring. Bonobo female Mixi has become the mother of a healthy baby, whose sex, however, could not yet be determined.
