The Palmengarten extends the summer and invites visitors to a colorful late summer show from September 12 to October 6. Plants such as grasses, woody plants, Mexican sunflowers, colorful chard and amaranth will take center stage in the gallery at the Palm House. The highlight of the event is the Late Summer Festival from September 19 to 22.
This year, the festival is not only dedicated to late summer, but also celebrates the conclusion of the main theme "Flower and Pollinator Ecology". Palmengarten Director Katja Heubach explains: "Visitors can expect a wide range of activities and events dedicated to the relationship between humans and insects."
The festival weekend begins on Thursday, 19 September with a dance performance entitled "I. Insects. September, with the dance performance "I don't hear Bugs in the City" by Anno Bolender and an artist talk that concludes the project "SLInBio - Urban lifestyles and the valorization of biodiversity". This will be followed by a Japanese paper theater with stories from insect life, insect crafts and an imaginative show by Circus Rambazotti with stilt walkers and fairy tale fairies. Guided tours of the exhibition round off the program.
On Saturday evening, 21 September, a lantern parade is planned, where visitors can make their own lanterns beforehand. There is also plenty for children to do: A carousel, face painting and a plant sale by Palmengarten trainees are just as much a part of the festival as plant advice and music.
In addition to the festivities, art enthusiasts can visit the exhibition "Playful? - Roulette with the insect and plant world" until the beginning of October. On September 21 in particular, artist Caro Krebietke will stage a funeral procession for lost insect species with her performance "Missing". In addition, Renate Reifert and Hama Lohrmann will be showing other works of art that address the relationships between humans, nature and technology.
The full program is available in the Palmengarten flyer and online at palmengarten.de. The current issue of the Palmengarten magazine "Im Garten summt's" has also been published in line with the theme and is available on site and online.
