(ffm) The performance festival Implanting2020 by ID_Frankfurt takes place from Thursday, 20. August, until Sunday, September 6, for three weekends in Frankfurt, Darmstadt and Offenbach and invites to an encounter with artistic works of the free scene in the urban space. For years, the independent scene in Frankfurt and the region has had a remarkable density and competence in the fields of performance, dance and theater, which IMPLANTIEREN2020 now bundles, networks and presents in urban space for the fourth time.
"Implantieren would like to be, especially in 2020, even more a place of real encounters and, with the help of artistic strategies, raise the question of spatial design and social coexistence in Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main region. We would like to thank the Department of Culture of the City of Frankfurt for their financial support and flexibility, which enables us to carry out the festival especially in these challenging times," says Alessia Neumann, part of the five-member curatorial team of this year's festival edition.
"Implant2020 comes just at the right time. Public space is currently gaining in importance; it is a dynamic entity and can be experienced anew through art. In Frankfurt in particular, the independent scene in the fields of performance, dance and theatre is first-class. Implant acts as a platform that makes an encounter with these art forms in public space possible. That's why I'm looking forward to the programme and the coming days," says head of culture Ina Hartwig.
As a production platform in the fields of performance, dance and theatre, the biennial festival organised by the association ID_Frankfurt (Independent Dance and Performance) is already enabling new perspectives for regional artists beyond the established institutions for the fourth time. In addition to nine works, most of which were produced especially for the festival, discursive formats and a mediation programme for children and young people were also developed for this year's edition. These, like the artistic works, focus on the theme of public and communally used space. In close cooperation with local initiatives, Implantieren2020 will also be staged in three completely different festival centres in Frankfurt, Darmstadt and Offenbach. Set up as places where different forms of coming together are possible, it will be shown here how public space can be used together.
