Rheingau Wine Market on the Freßgass celebrates anniversary in 2018!

One of the most popular culinary events in Frankfurt celebrates a round birthday this year. For the 40th time, the traditional Rheingau Wine Market will take place from Wednesday, August 29, to Friday, September 7, where only Rheingau wineries offer their fine wines on the Freßgass in the heart of the city. Especially at the end of the day, the wine market in the shadow of the skyscrapers offers a very special atmosphere, which thousands of visitors indulge in year after year.

Mayor Peter Feldmann is looking forward to the anniversary: "For four decades, the winegrowers of the Rheingau have been bringing their best drops to the Main metropolis. The Rheingau is one of the most important wine-growing regions in Germany. The wine region is characterized by a very special interplay of cultural and natural landscape and we are officially part of it, too." Feldmann also explains what connects Frankfurt and the Rheingau: "With the Lohrberg, we have the easternmost tip of the Rheingau on Frankfurt city territory. The vineyard there is cultivated by the winery of the city of Frankfurt am Main and produces fine wines year after year."

At this year's Rheingau wine market on the Freßgass, the vintners present the visitors above all with the current 2017 vintage. With a lot of manual work and diligence, the vintners succeeded in pressing high-quality wines. And so, this vintage is characterized by aromatic wines with a harmonious fruit acid and good structure, which turn out rather light, fruity and rich in finesse.

"The winegrowers of the Rheingau are always pleased that they are very warmly welcomed in the Frankfurt metropolis. It is a unique opportunity for all of them in the year to present the elegance of the Rheingau wines and especially of the current vintage to the visitors at the wine market", says Peter Seyffardt, president of the Rheingau winegrowers' association.

The wine festival will be opened by Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann, Peter Seyffardt and the Rheingau wine majesties on Wednesday, August 29, at 6 pm. "We always look forward to the wine festival in Frankfurt. The Freßgass with its beautiful ambience in the big city offer a special flair", says the Rheingau Wine Princess Alexandra Unger. "The wine market is a great opportunity for the people of Frankfurt, but also for the numerous guests of the city, to get to know the excellent Rheingau and Frankfurt wines and sparkling wines", explains the Frankfurt wine queen Marilen Maul.

"The Rheingau wine market has a fixed place in Frankfurt's calendar of events and is one of the city's traditional festivals and is extremely popular with locals and tourists alike", knows Thomas Feda, managing director of Tourismus+Congress GmbH, which organizes the festival. "Two years ago, we found our current wine queen here, whose term of office expires at the end of the year. We are happy to accept applications for this great office," says Feda.

The offer of the vintners is complemented by culinary delicacies, especially from the direct gastronomic Freßgass neighbors.

The opening hours are daily from 11 am to 11 pm. The official opening is Wednesday, August 29, at 6 p.m. at the fountain.

The Freßgass is located in the middle of the city and is optimally connected by public transport. The event can be reached via the S-Bahn stop Hauptwache or the stop Alte Oper of the underground lines U6/U7
