Let's be honest: For us in Frankfurt, every day is "apple wine day". But it is not only in beautiful Hesse that our cult drink enjoys enormous popularity. And so, on 3 June, World Cider Day is celebrated all around the globe - from Argentina to Finland, Lithuania to New Zealand. So there is a hearty "Cheers" to be heard today, which should also go around the world virtually. The Association of Hessian Cider and Fruit Juice Presses (Verband der Hessischen Apfelwein- und Fruchtsaft-Keltereien e. V.) is encouraging people to do so. "Send your cheers to the world" is the request the association is posting in social channels. Cider lovers all over the world can show how they celebrate this day with photos or selfies. Access to worldwide posting and toasting is provided by the keyword "World Cider Day" and "World Cider Day" on Facebook and Instagram, respectively.
"Cider stands for conviviality and joie de vivre, and this is now possible again in more and more places. We want to show the good mood on the social platforms", says Martin Heil, chairman of the association. "On World Cider Day, we are looking forward to photo and video greetings from all over the world. Whether with Bembel in front of the Frankfurt skyline, the Gerippten on a fruit meadow in the Taunus, the Wetterau or the Odenwald, the filled glass of cider, cider, cidre or Sidra, in Spain, England, Canada or Japan - the cider is as colorful as the world."
The Hessian Association has launched the World Cider Day 2013 to create awareness for the enormous variety and special features of cider. The day is not only supposed to make people want to enjoy cider, but also to inform themselves about cider and, moreover, to make them aware of its importance for nature conservation and the wine press craft. This has been achieved in the past years with numerous actions and events of wine pressers, cider makers and traders from all over the world. The day is intended to promote international networking between producers, the trade, the hospitality industry and end consumers. "With the global holiday for cider enthusiasts, we create closeness to our familiar favorite beverage via social networks. Ciders have their regional characteristics, are sweet or sour, carbonated, clear or cloudy. On June 3, World Cider Day, we're making an international declaration of love for cider."
