Since Monday, 1 March, there is a very special "Frankfurt stamp": As one of about 50 special stamps issued each year by the Federal Ministry of Finance, a stamp has been released featuring the "Westend" subway station. The stamp is part of the special postage stamp series "U-Bahn stations". The special stamps are selected on the basis that they reflect German history and culture. This now includes the Westend underground station, which went into service in 1986. It is located on the so-called C line and is served by the U6 and U7 lines.
Unlike in the 1960s and 70s, when the predominantly two-storey construction and low ceiling height set clear guidelines, the "Westend" station offered a wide range of design possibilities. It was possible to integrate architectural concepts into the construction phase there. The hall, for example, was designed to be open and spacious. Characteristic for the architecture of the station are the floral elements and the columns at the entrances. They serve as imposing light sources and refer to the palm garden in the immediate vicinity.
The stamp, which has a value of 2.70 euros, is available now both online and in post offices. The beautiful motif is by Selman Dogan Photoworks!
