In 1994 - 25 years ago - Frankfurt galleries that had formed a community of interest (IG) in 1983 organized a joint event at the Frankfurter Kunstverein for the first time. A quarter of a century later, it is impossible to imagine Frankfurt's cultural life without the "Saisonstart". For an entire weekend in September, art lovers can stroll through Frankfurt's galleries, meet artists in person, participate in the rich mediation offerings - and, above all, experience high-quality exhibitions of contemporary art.
For the 25th start of the season, the community of interests has once again issued invitations: 35 IG galleries, eight guest galleries as well as 15 off-rooms, other art venues and the ART FOYER of the DZ BANK Kunstsammlung are looking forward to many collectors and art lovers. The start of the season is under the patronage of the Head of the Department of Culture, Dr. Ina Hartwig: "I would like to congratulate all those involved on the 25th anniversary of the start of the Frankfurt galleries season. They have succeeded in making this format a valued date in the cultural calendar of the Main metropolis, and have been doing so for many years. More than 50 galleries and art institutions promise again this year a multifaceted enjoyment of art with a unique anniversary exhibition, numerous guided tours and lectures."
With more than 50 exhibition venues, the 25th season opener is a partner of THE FRANKFURT ART EXPERIENCE, the four-day art festival in Frankfurt, which will feature lectures and discussions as well as guided tours and the Paper Positions art fair, which will be held in Frankfurt for the first time, attracting 15.000 visitors are expected.
The special exhibition "GEMEINSAM! 25 Jahre Saisonstart der Frankfurter Galerien" in the rooms of Galerie Lachenmann will provide an entertaining retrospective of the joint activities of the Interessengemeinschaft Galerien in Frankfurt with documents, posters, photographs and memorabilia. The documentation, compiled by Isa Bickmann, illuminates a dynamic chapter in Frankfurt's recent art history.
