After the great success in the first season of the still young <link https: www.frankfurt-tipp.de freizeit s broadway-am-main-das-theater-alte-bruecke-in-sachsenhausen.html _blank>Theater Alter Brücke in Sachsenhausen, Franz Fischer, a native of Mainz, has returned to the charming theater for his second season with his revue. His new program is entitled "it wasn't all bad". And true to this motto, the audience is offered a colourful mixture of old and new. Fischer, who discovered his passion for acting as a schoolboy and later honed his musical talent during a stay in London, proves to be not only a good singer and pianist. He also cuts a fine figure as an entertainer and guitarist. When he then slips into the roles of two alter egos, the champagne delivery man Rolfi and the man of letters Kunibert Volzenbeil, he is also allowed to demonstrate his acting and comedic talent.
Versatility is also the musical focus of the revue. Udo Jürgens meets the Ärzte, while other songs help themselves to Randy Newman and Trio. Sometimes bitterly evil, then again gently and almost poetically, sometimes wonderfully funny, then again very melancholic - here really the whole palette is offered. In between, Fischer and his cocktail-mixing sidekick Nelson van Heuvel analyse current political events or re-enact the TV classic "The Big Prize" with "volunteers" from the audience - albeit in a very unique interpretation.
Franz Fischer quickly wins over the audience with his pleasant voice and tongue-in-cheek charming manner. It's fun to listen to him, whether he's singing quiet, melancholy songs, cheeky songs or Udo Jürgens classics. It's also nice that he provides little surprises again and again in the course of the evening by running counter to the audience's expectations. For example, when he enters the stage as the delivery man Rolfi in a light redneck look, one actually expects more lowbrow humour. But what he then performs in a deep bass voice is so wonderfully absurd that you can't help but laugh heartily and wish Rolfi would stay on stage a little longer. Fischer also sometimes goes unusual ways with the song selection, as he sometimes changes the mood very drastically. That this works so well is another testament to the artist's talent.
Whether music, reflections on current affairs, cocktails by Nelson van Heuvel, amusing interludes via the video screen or a classic quiz with audience participation - the great Franz Fischer Revue really does offer its visitors a very colourful evening and over two hours of very good entertainment.
