The station district is changing. There's no denying that. But the change cannot hide the fact that there are many problems in this neighborhood. Taunusstrasse is a very good example of this. Drug-related crime and prostitution are the order of the day here. But there are also many creative people living and working here who love their Taunusstraße - even if this love is sometimes very hard to bear. Councillor Markus Frank knows that a police presence alone will not solve the problems and improve the image of Taunusstrasse and the entire station district. The residents and creative people are also needed here. Together with the musician Daniel Wirtz, the TAB project managers Björn Eckerl and James Ardinast, as well as the support of Tim Fleischer, founder of Tatcraft GmbH and Olaf Deneberger, board member of the DDC (German Designer Club), a project has been implemented to help create positive news around Taunusstraße with the help of art and music.
From Saturday, 09.09.2017, the street will be transformed into a street gallery for a few weeks. Lampions designed by twenty artists will then bathe Taunusstraße in a whole new light. The lanterns were designed and built by Tim Fleischer from "Tatcraft" together with the agency "keinStil". Afterwards there was a call for entries, which was followed by sixty artists. A jury then selected the twenty best works from the sixty submissions, which will now decorate these lanterns. Thematically, the individual works of art are always about Taunusstraße, whereby the various facets of the street were captured in an exemplary manner for the entire Bahnhofsviertel.
The unveiling of the TAB Street Gallery will be accompanied by an open air concert. Daniel Wirtz, himself a committed resident of Taunusstraße, will be on stage, as will Shantel and - as a guest from Hamburg - Das BO from Fünf Sterne De Luxe. The local gastronomy is also involved in the evening to show the guests how versatile and above all how hospitable Taunusstraße is. One does not want to accept lawless spaces here and counteract them with creativity and music. A lofty goal, which, if the initiators have their way, should succeed not only on this one evening, but in the long term. Markus Frank is sure: "We will turn Taunusstraß0e and it will become a wonderful part of our station district."
There an art project and a concert is certainly not enough - but it is a step in the right direction. Exactly what will be seen in and on the aluminum lanterns, which are about six feet tall, is still a secret until Saturday. No longer a secret, however, are the three winners of the art competition. Already today, at a press conference at CREAM MUSIC in Taunusstraße, Benjamin Olsen (3rd place), Valentin J. Martin (2nd place) and Dennis Bienek (1st place) were awarded for their artistic examination of Taunusstraße.
The Open Air TAB Sounds begins on Saturday, 09 September, at 17:30 with a set by DJ Plazebo. Official opening is then at 6pm. Admission is free.
