(ffm) To ensure that Frankfurt's tunnel facilities function properly and remain safe for traffic, it is important to clean and maintain them regularly: that is why the Theater Tunnel will be closed for three consecutive nights in October. "In doing so, we are also fulfilling our legal mandate with the guidelines for the equipment and operation of road tunnels. Of course, we make sure that road traffic is affected as little as possible," explains Michaela Kraft, head of the Office of Road Construction and Development.
The work will begin on the night of Monday, October 19, to Tuesday, October 20, and continue on the following night of Tuesday, October 20, to Wednesday, October 21. Routine construction inspection will follow on the third night from Wednesday, October 21, to Thursday, October 22. Work will take place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night.
The Theater Tunnel has two lanes and is approximately 415 meters long. It connects Berliner Strasse in the old town with Gutleutstrasse in the station district.
Effects on traffic
A detour recommendation from Berliner Straße in the direction of Gutleutstraße is via Weißfrauenstraße, Neue Mainzer Straße, Taunustor and Gallusanlage. The detour for the opposite direction is via Hofstraße, Neue Mainzer Straße and Weißfrauenstraße.
