Everything you need to know about the evacuation
A British aerial mine of type HC-4000 was found during construction work near the Westend campus on Tuesday. According to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service, the 1.8-ton bomb is filled with 1.4 tons of TNT explosive and therefore has enormous explosive power. Although there is currently no danger from the explosive device, thousands of homes would be affected in the event of an explosion. Therefore, the largest evacuation of the post-war period will take place on Sunday. All residents within a 1.5 km radius of the site of the air mine must evacuate their homes. The evacuation, which is to begin at 6 a.m., will also affect the Hessische Rundfunk radio station and the police headquarters. The Marienkrankenhaus and the Bürgerhospital have to transfer their patients to other hospitals, planned operations have been postponed until next week. And the residents of about twenty old people's homes will also have to be accommodated elsewhere on Sunday. In addition, of course, local transport is also affected. Neither buses, nor subways are running in the area.
It is estimated that over 60,000 people are affected by the evacuation. In a joint press conference, the police and fire brigade stressed that it is enormously important that all citizens help to ensure that the evacuation goes smoothly and that the timetable for the defusing can be adhered to. As an enormous amount of effort is being put into the organisation and implementation, it is requested that people do not dial 110 or 112 if they have any questions. All important info can be found HERE on the Internet, as well as via the social media channels of the police and fire department. In addition, the city has set up a citizen phone, which is available around the clock. The number is: 069/212111
What you can/need to do:
<link http: www.feuerwehr-frankfurt.de index.php item _blank>Look at the map and check if you live in the evacuation area
If you do, you must leave the area on Sunday, 03.Sept. 2017, between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m.
Importantly, there are no exceptions! Anyone living in the evacuation area must leave the area. Discussions are unnecessary and only delay the action, which then ultimately all residents suffer.
If you cannot leave your home independently or know people to whom this applies, please report this to the Bürgertelefon
If you know people who do not speak German or English, please inform them of the evacuation measures
Inform yourself regularly on Sunday about the progress of the work
Follow the instructions of police and relief workers
Plan not to return to your homes before 8pm on Sunday.
About 4 hours are currently scheduled for the actual defusing. However, even after the successful removal of the three detonators, closures will remain in place so that the elderly can be transported back to nursing homes and patients back to hospitals first. Only then will residents also be allowed back into their homes.
So find a nice spot outside the exclusion zone for Sunday. For those who are mobile but have no place to stay, there is of course help. Two exhibition halls, the Jahrhunderthalle, the Ballsporthalle and a few other places are available. Also in this case please call the Bürgertelefon.
Important: The medical on-call service in the Bürgerhospital is no longer available from Saturday evening at the latest, but possibly earlier!

How are buses and trains running?
All subway trains will run as scheduled from the start of operations on Sunday morning, and in many cases will have more space due to additional cars. By 8 a.m., all subway trains will have left the evacuation area. As soon as the closure is lifted in the evening, the subways will resume service "train by train" on their entire routes.
During the closure, that is, from 8 a.m. until probably about 8 p.m., the subways will operate as follows: On the so-called A line, the subways will run during the closure between Südbahnhof and Hauptwache as well as from Hügelstraße (U1, U2) or Heddernheim (U3, U8) to Ginnheim, Bad Homburg-Gonzenheim, Oberursel-Hohemark and the Riedberg. Service will be suspended between Hauptwache and Hügelstraße.
The U4 line can run unimpeded between Enkheim and Festhalle/Messe. Between Festhalle and Bockenheimer Warte, passengers will have to do without the line.
The U5 will only run between Preungesheim and Marbachweg/Sozialzentrum station. From there to Konstablerwache, the line is closed; between Konstablerwache and Hauptbahnhof, the U4 line is available as an alternative.
The U6 and U7 lines do not run between Leipziger Straße and Hauptwache. The U6 runs on the sections Heerstraße - Leipziger Straße and Zoo - Ostbahnhof. The U7 is running between Hauptwache and Eissporthalle/Festplatz - due to construction work in Riederwald, it has not been running to Enkheim since Monday, 28 August; the U4 line is serving as a replacement. Between Hausen and Industriehof, passengers are asked to switch to bus line 72.
The U9 line is running as scheduled.
The trams can also run unhindered by the evacuation - with one small exception: Line 16, coming from Oberrad, will be routed to Westbahnhof from the Adalbert-/Schloßstraße stop during the closure. It will not be able to continue via Bo-ckenheimer Warte to Ginnheim.
Buses: These five bus lines will not operate all day on Sunday:
-Line 32 (Ostbahnhof - Miquel-/Adickesallee - Westbahnhof),
-Line 34 (Gallus Mönchhofstraße - Bornheim Mitte),
-Line 36 (Westbahnhof - Konstablerwache - Sachsenhausen Hainer Weg
- Line 64 (Ginnheim - Miquel-/Adickesallee - Hauptbahnhof)
- Line 75 (Bockenheimer Warte - Uni-Campus Westend - Bockenheimer Warte)
- Bus line 50 cannot run on its complete route all day. It does not reach Bockenheimer Warte, but is already turned around at Messe on its way from Unterliederbach West.
The all-day interruption of five lines is firstly due to the fact that they all pass through the closed area. Secondly, traffiQ has been asked by officials to provide buses and crews in large numbers to transport residents from the evacuation zone to the shelters and back again. The buses will be made available at several collection points on Sunday morning.
The traffiQ is making every effort to organise additional drivers and buses from the bus transport companies in charge; buses may also have to be withdrawn from other routes at short notice.
Very important: First inform, then drive! The municipal public transport company traffiQ and the VGF recommend all their passengers who have to be on the move on Sunday to find out how to get to their destination before setting off. As the timetable information on the Internet cannot be adjusted at such short notice, it is advisable to call the RMV service telephone on 069/2424-8024, which can be reached around the clock.
Despite Frankfurt's closely meshed local transport network, the massive restrictions imposed on local transport by the bomb disposal will not always make it easy to reach any destination quickly and comfortably.
All information is subject to change due to a different assessment of the situation by the police or fire department, even at short notice.
A great offer of the municipal museums: on presentation of the identity card there is free admission for all affected on 03.09.
To the municipal houses include: Archaeological Museum, Caricatura Museum, German Architecture Museum, Hindemith Cabinet, History Museum, Icon Museum (closed for exhibition construction), Institute for Urban History, Jewish Museum (Attention: Closed until 2018 due to expansion and renovation work), Kinder Museum, MMK 1 of the MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst, MMK 2 of the MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst (closed for exhibition construction), MMK 3 of the MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst, Museum Angewandte Kunst, Museum Judengasse, Porzellan Museum and the Weltkulturen Museum. The Deutsches Architekturmuseum has additionally extended its opening hours to 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Many non-city museums have also joined the initiative: The Städel Museum, the Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt and the Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung, as well as the Goethe House and the Bibelhaus, also grant free admission to affected residents during the houses' regular opening hours. Same goes for the German Film Museum, which has also extended its opening hours to 8am to 6pm.
Attractive hotel offers for those affected by the evacuation
For the affected residents, the Frankfurt Hotel Alliance in cooperation with Tourismus+Congress GmbH has organized hotel offers for one night at short notice. The overnight stay costs between 49 and 69 euros per person in a double room, including breakfast.
The arrangement is particularly lucrative for families: up to two children who have not yet exceeded the age of twelve pay nothing. The check-out time has also been adjusted to meet the needs of evacuees. On Saturday, September 2, guests can check-in at their booked hotel from 4pm and stay until 4pm the following day. Rooms can be booked directly at participating hotels.
