On Sunday, October 20, 2024, Frankfurt Zoo invites you to World Okapi Day. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., everything will revolve around the fascinating but little-known okapis that live in the dense rainforests of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Visitors can gain exciting insights into the lives of these shy animals at the okapi enclosure and at the activity stand by the Great Pond.
In addition to informative program items about the chocolate-brown forest giraffes, guests can also enjoy a variety of hands-on activities. Children can have their faces painted or get creative at the craft stand. There will also be okapi feedings at 11 am and 2:30 pm, where visitors can learn more about the way of life of these mysterious animals.
For refreshments in between, a cake stand will be offering treats to sweeten the rest of your visit to the zoo. Frankfurt Zoo is actively involved in protecting the okapi through the Okapi Conservation Project. Together with the local nature conservation authority, local action is taken against poaching, illegal logging and other threats to the okapis. Educational programs to promote sustainable agriculture are also part of the project.
