It is a particularly nice Christmas tradition in Frankfurt, which the Children's Office 2022 is already coordinating for the 27th time. On Monday, Sylvia Weber, Head of the Department for Education, Real Estate and New Construction, gave the starting signal for this year's Christmas campaign, which for almost three decades now has ensured that children from socially disadvantaged families also have a special wish fulfilled on Christmas Eve. To this end, the Children's Office, in cooperation with social institutions, is looking for children to fill out a wish list. The value of the gift is between 20 and 25 euros. The wish lists are then hung on wish trees that can be found throughout the city: In stores, Volksbank branches and at some companies. You can find an overview HERE
This year, more than 5300 children will again be given presents in this way! The wish lists hang just under three weeks at the various locations. Until Thursday, December 15, all citizens of Frankfurt can take a wish card from the tree, fulfill the wish and then, after attaching the card, hand in the gift either at a store where the cards are hanging or directly at the Children's Office. In time before Christmas, all gifts are collected by the Children's Office, missing ones are added and distributed to the institutions shortly before Christmas. Thus, each child receives its personal Christmas gift.
Sylvia Weber, Head of Department for Education, Real Estate and New Construction, says: "I am very pleased that the people of Frankfurt have been participating in this campaign for so many years. In doing so, they are all assuming social responsibility. This is particularly necessary in this difficult year. The current situation is extremely difficult for many Frankfurt families. For many families, a carefree Christmas is almost unthinkable. So it's all the nicer that our Christmas campaign has become a fixed part of Frankfurt's Christmas season." She also thanked in advance that certainly again many citizens of the city will participate in this beautiful action.
Also the families, which are cared for by the team early assistance of the health department Frankfurt, belong for some years to the presentees. "The lovingly wrapped gifts from the Christmas campaign are a highlight for many families," says Nathalie Fergenbauer from Frühe Hilfen. She says the moms and dads are very grateful and overwhelmed by how great the willingness of Frankfurt's citizens to support and donate is. "The living situation of families is often not easy, and the burdens and worries are particularly great this year. All the more our families will be happy about the respective gift," Fergenbauer continued.
