Commuters travelling by car or train in the Rhine-Main area will need damn good nerves and a lot of patience in the next few weeks - in the worst case even the next few months: the Salzbachtal bridge, part of the A66, will remain closed until further notice due to bridge damage. This means that the main artery between Wiesbaden and Frankfurt is partially closed to traffic completely. The area must be bypassed via the A643, A60 and A67, which is guaranteed to cause considerable chaos and traffic jams with rush hour on Monday. However, not only the A66 is affected, but also the railway line under the bridge: this is also closed, which is why numerous railway lines will have to stop at "Wiesbaden Hauptbahnhof", with individual lines ending at "Wiesbaden Ost". Affected are: RE9, RB10, RB75, S1, S8 and S9. Not affected is the line RB21.
How long the closure will last, can not be said at the moment. Because the damages are substantial and must be examined first of all exactly, before further steps can be decided. Until expert opinion and concept stand, it may take time.
The changes for commuter and regional trains.
The S1 and S8 lines end at "Wiesbaden Ost" and turn around there.
