The Museum für Kommunikation Frankfurt is dedicating its new exhibition "Speaking of Sex" to the development of conversations and perceptions around sexuality over the last 100 years. From October 2, 2024 to September 7, 2025, visitors
can explore topics such as sexual education, self-determination and the role of the media in the context of sexuality.
In seven themed areas, the exhibition offers interactive stations and installations that encourage reflection and discussion. In the "Let's talk" area, for example, the difficult communication about sexuality is addressed. Visitors
can name plush models of genitals or find out which scents are stimulating or repulsive at an olfactory station.
Another focus is on sex education. The development of school education in Germany since 1945 is shown in a staged classroom. Audio recordings and exhibits convey visitors' personal "sex education stories"
The "Drawing boundaries" section addresses sexualized violence and the legal framework, while "Sexuality and self" focuses on the diversity of sexual identities and self-determination. The role of the media is highlighted in the "Media Lust" section, where visitors
experience how sensory stimuli such as hearing and seeing are related to erotic content.
The exhibition also offers a version in simple language for the first time and is supported by a diverse accompanying program with guided tours, discussions and workshops. A digital "Expotizer" complements the online offer at apropos-sex.museumsstiftung.de.
The exhibition is aimed at people aged 14 and over, but younger children may also take part if accompanied by a parent or guardian.
