Frankfurt Rhine-Main celebrates sustainable culinary culture: FOODTURA Festival launches

From September 23 to October 6, 2024, the Frankfurt Rhine-Main region will be all about indulgence, urbanity and sustainability. The FOODTURA Festival will celebrate its premiere with around 50 events and numerous specials in the gastronomy sector. The festival, which builds on the former Klimagourmet Festival, focuses on culinary delights and sustainable nutrition.

The event is organized by the non-profit initiative Klimagourmet and the Initiative Gastronomie Frankfurt e. V. (IGF). Stefanie Wüst, Head of Economic Affairs and patron of the festival, emphasizes: "The FOODTURA Festival connects suppliers, institutions, restaurateurs and consumers and thus promotes diversity and sustainability in gastronomy."

The program includes a wide range of activities, including cooking classes, workshops, tastings and events such as the Summer Festival of Sustainability or the climate bike tour "Nutrition and Sustainability". School classes are also involved to raise awareness of climate-friendly nutrition.

Highlights include a green belt bike tour to places of urban self-sufficiency and an alternative Oktoberfest. The FOODTURA Family Sunday at the agricultural cooperative Die Kooperative in Frankfurt-Oberrad, where visitors can press apple juice and visit a city farm, will conclude the event.

Parallel to this, the two-day FOODTURA Gastro Con is aimed at gastronomy professionals. This first-time convention offers practical presentations and workshops on the topics of food waste, urban nutrition and the future of gastronomy. James Ardinast from the IGF emphasizes the importance of networking: "Gastro Con is a platform for sharing best practices and making contacts."

Numerous Frankfurt restaurants are also taking part in the festival with special offers. Sunny Side Up, for example, is serving a regional lunch, while Heritage Frankfurt is offering a five-course menu made from seasonal and vegan ingredients. Lena Iyigün, CEO of the IGF, is delighted with the variety of gastronomic specials that will bring the FOODTURA Festival to the whole city.

Many of the events are free of charge. The full program can be found on the official website foodtura-festival.de.
