Important step taken for the Museum of Modern Electronic Music MOMEM

About the fact that the Museum of Modern Electronic Music MOMEM will soon be built at the Hauptwache, <link https: www.frankfurt-tipp.de ffm-aktuell s ugc das-momem-museum-of-modern-electronic-music-kommt.html _blank>We already told you HERE.The announcement that the long-planned museum is actually coming has made big waves not only in Frankfurt, but also in the international press. So it is really very positive news that now also the magistrate of the city of Frankfurt in its meeting on Friday, May 18, has approved the lease of the rooms in the mezzanine of the Hauptwache to the association Friends of MOMEM Museum of Modern Electronic Music for five years. Now the city council still has to approve the resolution and then it can finally get started.

Mayor Peter Feldmann is very attached to the project, which is why he has also taken on the patronage: "Frankfurt is one of the birthplaces of techno," says Feldmann about the planned MOMEM. "Many pioneers of electronic music grew up here. That's why we also awarded the Goethe Plaque to Sven Väth two years ago. MOMEM is a unique cultural project worldwide and important for our city. We want to emphasize the significance of this important cultural epoch and give it space. MOMEM has international appeal."

Bau- und Liegenschaftsdezernent, Councillor Jan Schneider, is pleased with the decision: "Following the departure of the Children's Museum, we will be able to provide interesting premises in a central location for this highly regarded project. As early as November 2015, the magistrate had agreed on the transfer of the premises in a letter of intent. The decision now taken gives the operator association planning security." And he adds, "A short-term transfer agreement was also signed with MOMEM, which makes it possible to use the rooms now and to tackle further planning."

Director of Culture Ina Hartwig highlights the importance for Frankfurt as a city of culture: "MOMEM provides a unique opportunity to present this genre of music exclusively here in Frankfurt am Main. Nowhere else is there a comparable exhibition concept. MOMEM will show and follow the development and shaping of electronic music from its beginnings to the present day. By linking it with other areas of art and culture, such as design, fashion or dance, new impulses will be created and thus enrich the diversity of Frankfurt's museum landscape."

Particularly in the 90s, Frankfurt was one of the metropolises known for its innovative power in the field of techno and house music. Clubs like the Dorian Gray and the Omen were world-renowned addresses. The museum is not only intended to document what has happened, but also to continue and develop the art form of electronic music with an innovative exhibition and event concept. With the establishment of a Museum of Modern Electronic Music, a project unique in Germany is being created that will enrich the cultural diversity in the city.
