Eight women, eight different paths in life, eight times courage and perseverance: at the beginning of the year, Rosemarie Heilig, Head of the Women's Department, together with the Women's Department, had eight Frankfurt women speak on posters and in short films about their origins, their goals and what they have achieved.
Now the highly acclaimed campaign is moving to the old Bonames/Kalbach airfield: Stephanie König, project manager of the Nature School Hessen, has brought them to the green willow labyrinth. Here, the portraits of the women on eight steles accompany the path to the center of the labyrinth, each with a personal quote, a QR code leads to the short films. Other steles feature words about courage and trust in various languages. At the end of the approximately 300-metre-long path, a final stele bears a mirror in which everyone can see themselves. The phrase "I dare to do something!" is both encouraging and an invitation to be courageous.
"With the 'We dare to do something' campaign, I wanted to show women who have had to fight hard to get to where they are now. Whether they are educators, hairdressers, judges or professional footballers, none of them were born with success," says Heilig and continues: "We want to encourage people to talk, think and discuss about equal opportunities, unequal treatment and discrimination against women in the willow labyrinth. The encouraging women and role models should give people the confidence to trust in their own strengths to lead a self-determined and independent life."
König adds: "The labyrinth, one of the oldest symbols of mankind, is a fitting counterpart to the campaign's message: 'The labyrinth stands for the path of life. Unlike in a maze, no one can get lost there, but is invited to follow the path with confidence. That's why the willow labyrinth fits in perfectly with what the 'Wir trauen uns was' campaign wants to convey: have confidence in yourself. The encouraging portraits of women encourage you to think about your own path in life. Alone or with others."
The public exhibition runs until the end of October and can be visited at any time. At the same time, class groups will be invited. School events are also planned with the women from the "Wir trauen uns was" campaign. Please register for the events and guided tours by sending an email to stephanie.koenig@naturschule-hessen.de.
