Resuscitation Week in Frankfurt: Saving lives through quick action Health department tours the city with training courses

Under the motto "Check, call, press", the Frankfurt Health Department is touring the city during the nationwide Resuscitation Week to teach life-saving measures such as chest compressions. From September 16 to 22, numerous training courses will be held in Frankfurt to show citizens how easy it is to save lives in an emergency.

"A sudden cardiac arrest can affect anyone - even friends or family. It is therefore crucial to educate the public and show them how to act correctly," explains Elke Voitl, Head of Social Affairs and Health. She calls on people to attend training courses and not to be afraid of resuscitation measures.

Around 120,000 people suffer a cardiac arrest outside of hospital every year in Germany. Around half of these cases could be survived with quick reactions and resuscitation attempts. "In an emergency, you can't do anything wrong except do nothing," emphasizes Dr. Peter Tinnemann, Head of the Frankfurt Health Department.

The training courses are not only held in public, but also in companies and institutions. For example, employees of Frankfurter Entsorgungs- und Service GmbH (FES) and the Städel Museum are trained. The highlight is the public resuscitation training on the Römerberg on Saturday, September 21, from 10 am to 2 pm.

Dr. Frank Naujoks, Medical Director of the rescue service, explains how important it is to react quickly: "For every minute without assistance, the chance of survival drops by ten percent." He encourages the public not to be put off by uncertainty. Emergency call centers support the helpers on the phone until the rescue service arrives.

In addition to the campaigns for the general public, Frankfurt city councillors and magistrates will also receive training during the city council meeting on 19 September.

The Resuscitation Week is organized nationwide under the patronage of Health Minister Karl Lauterbach. The aim is to encourage more people to intervene in an emergency and save lives by taking quick action.
