'Under Arms. Fire & Forget 2' on the home stretch

Exhibition on weapons in fashion, design, art and everyday culture ends March 26

(kus) The critically acclaimed exhibition "Under Arms. Fire & Forget 2" at the Museum Angewandte Kunst is on view for just under two more weeks, until March 26. More than 50,000 people have already visited the exhibition since it opened in September 2016. On the last day of the exhibition, museum director Matthias Wagner K, who co-curated the show with Ellen Blumenstein and Daniel Tyradellis, will offer a final public tour at 3 p.m.

The Museum Angewandte Kunst's 1,200 square feet of exhibition space features whimsical and beautiful, informative and disturbing exhibits from art, design and media: Works by Barbara Kruger, Korpys/Löffler, Omer Fast, Timo Nasseri, Nedko Solakov, Timur Si-Qin and others each reflect on weapons and physical violence in original ways. Bomber jackets by Helmut Lang, camouflage prints, perfume bottles and dildos in the shape of hand grenades, Afghan carpets with weapons motifs or designs by Philippe Starck use the affects associated with weapons for their own purposes. The reference to military aesthetics plays with provocation, but at the same time hidden fears and longings of a society are condensed in these objects.
