Director of Culture Hartwig receives members of the Order Pour le mérite
On Saturday, 23. September, Department of Culture and Science Ina Hartwig welcomed 26 recipients of the Order Pour le mérite for Sciences and Arts at the Jewish Museum. They visited the museum as part of this year's fall conference of the Order, which was held in Frankfurt and Kronberg. The award of the Order Pour le mérite is considered the highest honor that can be bestowed in the arts and sciences in Germany. Among the current members of the Order are 17 Nobel laureates, and current members from the Frankfurt area and Hesse include photographer Barbara Klemm and artist Rebecca Horn.
Head of Culture and Science Hartwig said, "I am very pleased to welcome the members of the Order Pour le mérite to Frankfurt. As a city of culture, we feel connected to this traditional award, which is highly recognized in the arts and sciences. The fact that the recipients of what was originally the highest Prussian order are visiting Frankfurt's Paulskirche 175 years after the revolutionary year of 1848 is a nice punch line in terms of democratic history."
The members of the order visited the Goethe House, the German Romanticism Museum and the Paulskirche in Frankfurt, in addition to the Jewish Museum.
