The construction of the new Gateway Gardens S-Bahn station and the associated connection to Frankfurt Airport will be felt inconveniently in the coming months, and not just by commuters travelling by S-Bahn. Between mid-October and mid-December, for example, the S-Bahn will be rerouted and the Kelsterbach and Flughafen Regionalbahnhof stations will not be served. Before that happens, motorists will be affected for the time being. For in the course of the construction work, theaccess road to Terminal 2 from the A3 coming from Würzburg and from the A5 will be fully closed from Wednesday, July 31, 8 p.m., until Friday, September 13, 3.30 p.m.
This affects the Frankfurt Airport exit of the A3 and the subsequent exit to Terminal 2. The access road to Terminal 1 will remain open. A detour to Terminal 2 will be provided via the Frankfurt-Süd exit of the A3 and the B 43. Coming from the A5, both directions will have to be diverted via the B 43 from the Frankfurter Kreuz interchange during this period in order to reach Terminal 2.
Furthermore, access to Terminals 1 and 2 from the A3 coming from Würzburg and from the A5 will be changed on two weekends. The Frankfurt Airport exit of the A3, to Terminals 1 and 2, will be fully closed from Friday, August 23, 7 p.m., to Monday, August 26, 4 a.m., and from Friday, September 6, 9 a.m., to Monday, September 9, 4 a.m.. A detour will be in place via the Frankfurt-Süd exit of the A3 and the B 43. Coming from the A5, it will be necessary to detour via the B 43 from the Frankfurter Kreuz interchange from both directions for this period in order to reach Terminal 1.
Additional closures
In addition to the closures caused by the construction work, access to Terminal 2 from the A3 coming from Würzburg will also be closed on Sunday, August 4, between 6 a.m. and noon. August, between 6 a.m. and 12 p.m. due to the Frankfurt City Triathlon. The Frankfurt-Süd exit of the A3 will be fully closed during this time. The detour to Terminal 2 will be via the Frankfurt-Flughafen exit of the A3, in the direction of Terminal 1 and continuing via B 43 to the Kelsterbach junction.
Background of the work
For the construction of the new tunnel of the Gateway Gardens S-Bahn connection, exits have been temporarily relocated in recent years. Now that the tunnel shell has been completed, these will be moved back.
