Prize money will help close education gaps
"This year we need extra budgets to help close the education gaps among our target groups as quickly as possible," stresses Cynthia Dittmar, the Foundation's project coordinator, "It is an unfortunate fact that the Corona crisis left a significant mark, especially on the poorest."
The $50,000 prize money from UBS's Covid-19 Relief Prize would be a very welcome contribution to that end. Childaid Network would invest the prize money in vocational skills training for young people, enabling them to build a foundation for an independent future.
"The lack of prospects for youth in our project regions is a major problem," said Cynthia Dittmar, "with our programs we can encourage, qualify and match them with local employers or prepare them for self-employment so that they don't have to migrate as day laborers."
The Covid-19 Relief prize money would give 500 more young people a chance at a career back home.
Prospects for young people
To create prospects for young people through start-up programmes and needs-based vocational courses. By 2023, an additional 10,800 youths will initially be reached in this way in the north-eastern Indian states of Assam and Meghalaya. The new project is 75% financed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. In this way, an important contribution can be made to the socio-economic development of one of the poorest regions on earth and acute abuses such as child labour, early marriage and malnutrition can be effectively prevented.
