City of Frankfurt prohibits New Year's Eve fireworks on the Eiserner Steg and the Zeil

The City of Frankfurt has issued two general decrees prohibiting the setting off of fireworks on the Eiserner Steg, its bridgeheads and on the Zeil, including Konstablerwache and Hauptwache, for New Year's Eve. The aim of the measures is to protect crowds of people from injury and to ensure an orderly New Year's Eve.

Prohibition on the Eiserner Steg

The fireworks ban will apply on the Eiserner Steg from 9 p.m. on December 31 until 3 a.m. on January 1, 2025. During this period, it is prohibited to carry or set off fireworks in categories F2 and higher - including rockets, firecrackers and firework batteries - as well as pyrotechnic items in categories T1 and T2 such as Bengal flares or fire fountains. Bags and containers with a capacity of more than three liters are also prohibited during this time.

The bridge is controlled by the police on both sides. Short-term closures may be necessary if there are too many people.

Fireworks ban on the Zeil

The ban on the Zeil extends over a longer period of time, namely from December 21, 8 pm to January 1, 2025, 6 am. The use and open display of category F2 fireworks is also prohibited here. The regulation also applies to the Konstablerwache and Hauptwache areas.

Further restrictions in the city

In addition to the measures on the Eiserner Steg and the Zeil, a general ban on fireworks applies in Frankfurt in areas with an increased risk of fire. These include churches, hospitals, children's and old people's homes as well as half-timbered houses, Frankfurt Zoo and the city forest. The setting off of fireworks is strictly prohibited within a 200-meter radius of these objects. The basis for this is the nationwide "First Ordinance to the Explosives Act".

Controls and traffic restrictions

The state and city police will increase monitoring of compliance with the bans. Violations will be punished consistently. In addition, considerable traffic obstructions are to be expected due to extensive traffic closures in the area north and south of the Main. Drivers are advised to take a wide detour around this area.
