Culture, music and gastronomy: What to expect at Open Viertel 2023

On Saturday, September 9, the trade association Treffpunkt Bahnhofsviertel and the initiative "Auf ins Viertel" invite you to Open Viertel 2023. On four music stages and in many other places, visitors can experience the Bahnhofsviertel authentically and with free admission.

Best late summer weather should set in, when bands and DJs from 14 clock on four stages make the Bahnhofsviertel a large experience island. Because to stage a whole district as an open day is not commonplace even in Frankfurt. What's special about this format is that the program and organization is being handled by tradespeople and volunteers from the Bahnhofsviertel, with financial support from the city's city marketing department. Different organizers organize the stages. This creates a very heterogeneous and diverse program that authentically reflects the idiosyncratic neighborhood.

Head of Economic Affairs Stephanie Wüst says: "The Bahnhofsviertel is an important hub for tourists and commuters from the Rhine-Main region, as well as an important business location. Banks, agencies, insurance companies, the hospitality industry and retail are strongly represented here. In recent years, developments have taken place that threaten this coexistence and have given the district an unflattering reputation. But the Bahnhofsviertel is more than dealers, violence and garbage. Whenever I'm here, I see committed citizens who want to change things for the better. They believe in their district, but also expect support from the city, the police and Frankfurt's civil society. They want more citizens to come to the Bahnhofsviertel again to eat, celebrate, work or store, and to back them up. 'Open Viertel' offers a wonderful opportunity to do this. It is an invitation to all Frankfurt residents to get their own impression and set a positive example."

"With 'Open Viertel', we are bringing the many positive sides of the Bahnhofsviertel back into the consciousness of our city. The actions so far have confirmed to us that we can move a lot with the initiative. Because we live here, work here, are authentic and, above all, everyone participates. The event will underline this once again: It will be colorful, creative and above all diverse. Look forward with us to a whole day in the station district," says Nazim Alemdar, chairman of the trade association Treffpunkt Bahnhofsviertel and owner of the cult kiosk Yok Yok.

In addition to the program under the open sky, the station district can also be experienced indoors. Thus, the catering establishments open their doors, but also many other institutions and facilities such as the Weißfrauen Diakoniekirche from the 1950s, the gallery Schmierke and Rundgaenger, Dona Carmen, My Way Bar, the dance school Monika Bauer and the Yok Yok at the new location on the Kaisersack.

On Jürgen Ponto Square, the Lume Boutique Hotel is the organizer at the Silver Tower. On offer will be drinks and sandwiches from French bento bar & Le Petit Royal, live music and rotating DJs on stage from 2pm to 11pm.

At Wiesenhüttenplatz, Yok Yok Eden is the central focal point under the motto "Minimal & Mispelchen", DJs DJ and three bars enliven the square from 3 to 11 pm.

On Francois Mitterrand Square, the hosts Why not wait? Collective and Dame of Spades await visitors. DJs, a live graffiti show, show acts, cocktail and food stands enrich the square and invite you to linger from 2 to 11 p.m.

At Niddasack, restaurateurs James and David Ardinast and Ima Clique present live music and DJs under the motto "Electro meets Oriental". Among others, Shiran (live act from Tel Aviv and Yemen), Zaatar (Morocco and France), Safa and the Hafla Boys. The physical well-being is provided with Streetfood by Stanley + Rashcook, Drinks by Shuka Bar + Baba & The Gang from 17 to 23 clock.

At Francois-Mitterrand-Platz also stops the "Long Bank", which was last used at the Summer on the Main and on the Hauptwache.

Until 11 p.m., visitors can enjoy music from DJs and bands of various stripes. Then the day turns into night in the station district and the many clubs can be experienced as Nightcrawler until morning.

The stage program is supplemented by a scavenger hunt with attractive prizes and interesting guided tours. Ulrich Mattner, for example, is offering a "Hidden Places Tour" free of charge. Meeting point is the Yok Yok Eden at the Wiesenhüttenplatz. The group size is 25 guests per tour. The duration of the tour is two hours. Tours begin at 3, 5:30 and 8 p.m. Additional program information can be found in the appendix.
