Dancing is a rousing, versatile and expressive art form. The many different facets of dance are now impressively paid tribute to at the now seventh Dance Festival Rhine-Main. Under the motto re:shape, the festival presents international guest performances as well as top-class dance pieces from the Rhine-Main region on stage or on ice, as performances or as workshops. In this way, the artistic and political power of movement forms that have until now been excluded from the canon of European stage dance is made tangible.
In various locations in Frankfurt, Offenbach, Darmstadt and Wiesbaden, from 27. October to November 13, nearly 50 events will be presented, including dance performances, workshops, a clothing swap party and a closing party at the Staatstheater Darmstadt. A special highlight is also the Dance Day Rhine-Main on November 05, which in its tenth edition offers more than 130 workshops in Frankfurt, Bad Homburg, Hanau, Wiesbaden, Langen, Schneidhain and Darmstadt.
Equally to the prelude of the festival "Murmuration" brings the virtuoso swarm behavior of starlings in a fascinating performance on the ice, while "V/ertigo" makes extreme situations of an uncertain life danceable with the help of a stage angled by 34 degrees. With "AEROBICS!" a gripping mixture of fitness movement and ballet comes to the stage, and "I am 60" movingly presents a very personal story of Wen Hui, the pioneer of independent Chinese dance theater. These are just a few of the pieces and performances on offer at the 7th Rhine-Main Dance Festival.
Those who want to get active themselves will get their money's worth at various workshops, such as "Age does not protect you from dancing," which is aimed specifically at people over 60. Also the renowned choreographer and dancer Chen-Wei Lee leads interested in a two-hour workshop to the movement practice that has shaped her dance work.
Whether as an audience or as an active part of a workshop - who can not escape the fascination of dance, is exactly right at the 7th Dance Festival Rhine-Main! All further information about the individual dates and event locations can be found at: https://www.tanzfestivalrheinmain.de
