For the fourth time, the Bernd Reisig Foundation and Frankfurt musician and producer Moses Pelham organized a vegan meal for homeless and needy people. The event, which took place in the Ratskeller of Frankfurt's Römer town hall, attracted around 500 guests. More than 50 volunteers ensured that everything ran smoothly.
"Life on the streets is getting harder and harder, especially due to the rising cost of living. With this campaign, we want to offer people a warm meal and a feeling of security," explained Bernd Reisig, Chairman of the Foundation. Co-initiator Moses Pelham was delighted with the success of the vegan offer: "Thanks to the great support of vegan chef Nir Rosenfeld, we were once again able to serve a purely plant-based meal."
Nir Rosenfeld, who donated the vegan food and comes from the Kuli Alma restaurant, emphasized the importance of a balanced diet: "Vegan food does not mean doing without, but stands for enjoyment, environmental awareness and health." The menu included labaneh, Israeli pita bread, salads and a Tel Aviv mix of pea protein mince and shawarma made from wheat protein. Apple pie was served for dessert.
Support also came from other companies: Drinks were sponsored by HASSIA, vegan pastries by Bäckerei Huck. In addition, the Frankfurt lifestyle brand Mølk distributed plant-based milk to all guests in need. Frankfurter Volksbank and the Hessian pharmaceutical company Engelhard Arzneimittel also contributed to the campaign.
In order to facilitate access to the event, Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurt am Main (VGF) made it possible for homeless guests to travel free of charge on public transport. Admission tickets were distributed via charitable organizations.
The event not only provided a hot meal, but also fellowship and appreciation. The Bernd Reisig Foundation has been organizing a goose dinner for the homeless at Christmas time for over a decade. Since 2021, the vegan meal in the Römer Ratskeller has been another important tradition to support people in need.
