Since Monday, April 29, a service provider commissioned by the city has been removing the gold-colored bicycles. One of the reasons: It is an unauthorized special use. Another reason: some of the bikes are mounted in a way that is dangerous to traffic, which is why some of them have already been removed in recent days. And last but not least: The bicycles are blocking bicycle parking brackets, making them unusable for cyclists.
When the first gold-painted bicycles appeared in the urban area around 14 days ago, an ultimately unsuccessful search began - namely for the perpetrators of the whole thing. As a result, it was not possible to find out who had appropriated the bicycles, which had already been labeled as scrap bikes, painted them and then distributed them around the city.
Scrap bikes are bicycles that have been standing in one place for a long time without being used. These can be, for example, bicycle parking racks and railings in public areas. To ensure that the owners still have a chance to retrieve their bikes, they are first given a yellow sticker. If the bike is still in the same location 14 days later, it will be given a red sticker and then removed.
