The Historisches Museum Frankfurt (HMF) has a new director: Dr. Doreen Mölders introduced herself as the new director at a press conference on Tuesday, January 28, and gave an outlook on the museum's future priorities.
"The HMF is a role model for innovative museum work. I look forward to working with the team and Frankfurt's city society on the further development of the museum," said Mölders. Key topics for the coming years will be the digitization of the collection and sustainable museum work. Putting the collection online is urgently needed, as artificial intelligence is changing the way knowledge is acquired.
In terms of content, Mölders is focusing on the history of work as well as social and democratic history. A conference on the topic of "Museums and social classes" is planned for 2025.
In addition to these long-term perspectives, the HMF also presented its program for 2025. From 15 March, the Young Museum will be showing the special exhibition "Children have rights!", which takes a playful look at children's rights. On June 18, the participatory exhibition "Every day housing question", which deals with the development and future of the housing market in Frankfurt, will be launched.
Other highlights include the 25th anniversary of the "Library of Generations", Sigrid Sigurdsson's remembrance project, which runs until 2105, and a new sculpture by Frankfurt artist Cornelia Heier, which will be exhibited from May as part of the "Art in the Atrium" series.
Dr. Doreen Mölders has extensive experience in museum management. Most recently, she headed the Westphalian State Museum of Archaeology and Culture in Westphalia, where she established innovative digital mediation formats and participatory projects.
With her new role, she aims to further develop the HMF and strengthen its position as a leading museum for urban history.
