A new cultural meeting place is being created on the Zeil: the vacant EKINOS at Frankfurt's Hauptwache are being revived under the name "MASSIF E". The project, initiated by the creative platform MASSIF CENTRAL, is intended to provide an innovative space for art, design, street art, culture, cuisine, sport and film. The opening is planned for Easter 2025.
"With MASSIF E, we want to implement the core values of MASSIF CENTRAL and create a creative hotspot that is accessible to everyone," explains Managing Director Florian Joeckel. Together with the owner family Jaeger, a new usage concept was developed for the historic building. "Entertainment, events and emotions are at the heart of our plans," adds project manager Oemer Enrique Erol.
A portion of the cinema auditoriums will be retained in order to preserve the connection to their original use. The "MASSIF E" will serve as the festival center for the 18th LICHTER Filmfest Frankfurt, which will be dedicated to the theme of "ANGST" in 2025.
"The revival of the EKINOS marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Zeil. We are looking forward to filling this special place with life," emphasizes Joeckel. Planning is currently in full swing to ensure that the opening is completed in time for the grand opening in spring.
The EKINOS, once a popular cinema, will be given a new purpose with the "MASSIF E" - as a lively venue for creative people and those interested in culture.
