On Saturday, May 4, it starts again, the Night of the Museums. The Historisches Museum Frankfurt (HMF) offers a program full of cultural highlights, which are briefly presented below.
How exciting Frankfurt's history often was can be discovered during short guided tours through the exhibitions. Guides show the city on the Main during the Staufer era, as a money city, as a cosmopolitan city or as a city model. The Stadtlabor and the highlights of the Historical Museum can be explored on your own - on themed tours such as. "Frankfurt's history of democracy. 1848 to today" or "Metzler 1646 - 2024. Bankers in Frankfurt".
In addition to the great history, there are also gruesome bedtime stories by cabaret artist and slam poet Torsten Sträter. Read by Sascha Rotermund, the dubbing voice of Benedict Cumberbatch, and accompanied by eerie music by Volker Präkelt, places such as retirement homes, freeways and the living room at home suddenly become really spooky.
At 7 pm, the Silent Disco starts in the Schneekugel foyer - simply put on your headphones and immerse yourself in the hits of the past decades. Food and drinks will be provided by the museum café and the Bembel Gin Bar.
The HMF is also present outside its own rooms: for the Night of the Museums, the Kaisersaal with its neo-Gothic staircase opens its doors for guided tours followed by a music performance. Thomas Zeuner plays minstrels' music on medieval instruments such as shawm, bagpipe and hurdy-gurdy.
There are guided tours of the Haus zur Goldenen Waage every 40 minutes during the Night of the Museums. There, the HMF has furnished both upper floors of the front building with furniture, paintings and everyday objects from the 17th and 18th centuries as they might have been inhabited by the wealthy merchant family van Hamel, who had the house built in 1618.
