After a one-year break, the popular Swiss Street Festival is celebrating its comeback on the weekend of September 28 and 29. The organizers are expecting around 200,000 visitors, who can look forward to a varied program of music, culinary delights and a wide range of stalls. The Schweizer Straße action group invites guests to the traditional Schweizer Straße in Sachsenhausen to enjoy the late summer together.
The Schweizer Straße festival, which has been a firm tradition in the Rhine-Main region for over 30 years, attracts thousands of visitors every year. In addition to a variety of local specialties such as Frankfurt sausages and the famous "Grie Soß'", international delicacies are also on the menu. However, the central component of the festival is the Frankfurt "Ebbelwoi", which is the culinary highlight every year.
Music, culinary delights and culture on three stages
Renowned DJs who have already played at events such as the World Club Dome and in Frankfurt's club scene provide the musical backdrop. On a total of three stages - at Schweizer Platz, in front of the Frankfurter Volksbank branch and in Textorstraße - a varied program will entertain visitors for two days.
But the festival offers more than just music and culinary delights: With over 60 stalls, the "Marktstraße" invites you to browse, while the "Kinderspielstraße" offers a variety of games especially for the youngest guests. A special attraction is the tombola on Sunday afternoon, with numerous prizes to be won. The proceeds from the event will support the Frankfurt Children's Aid Foundation, which supports disadvantaged children.
A festival for the community
Head of Economic Affairs Stephanie Wüst emphasizes the importance of the street festival for the city of Frankfurt: "Schweizer Straße is one of the most beautiful and popular shopping streets in our city. The action group has put together an appealing program and invested a great deal of commitment and passion in its preparation and implementation. The traders and residents make a significant contribution to the identity of Schweizer Straße and create a familiar environment that makes this festival an event that is also popular beyond the region."
The board members of the action group, Ralf Wagner and Gregor Meyer, expressed their gratitude for the support that made the festival possible again: "It's a wonderful feeling that the Schweizer Straße festival is back after a year's break. A big thank you to the City of Frankfurt and all the helping hands who contributed to this."
A highlight in Frankfurt's late summer
Eduard M. Singer, Head of the City Marketing Department, also emphasizes the importance of such festivals for the local economy and city marketing: "The local tradespeople and restaurateurs are at the forefront of the neighbourhood and street festivals in particular. They create a neighbourly atmosphere and are an important pillar for city marketing."
He gives visitors a special tip: "Walk along Schweizer Straße from south to north, and you'll have a fantastic view of the Frankfurt skyline!"
The festival will be officially opened on Saturday, September 28, at 2 p.m. by Wüst, Head of Economic Affairs, on Schweizer Platz. For two days, it offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience the cultural diversity of Sachsenhausen and celebrate late summer in Frankfurt.
The Schweizer street festival thus remains an important highlight in the city's calendar of events, bringing together people from the entire Rhine-Main region and promoting the local community.
