Zukunft Europagarten 2.0: Grünflächenamt presents redesign

The Europagarten in Frankfurt's Gallus district is being extensively redesigned. In a participatory process, the Parks Department has collected numerous suggestions from citizens in order to better adapt the park to the needs of local residents and to meet the challenges of climate change. The results of this public participation and the plans for the redesign will be presented to the public on Tuesday, October 8, at 4 p.m. in the offices of the Parks Department at Adam-Riese-Straße 25. Prior registration is not required.

Citizens were involved in the planning process in several phases. The kick-off took place in February with a tour of the park, which was attended by around 100 people. This was followed by other formats such as a planning workshop, a children's and youth workshop and a special women's breakfast in May. The ideas put forward include a "Tiny Forest", an extended playground as well as more shady trees, additional seating and flower beds.

After many years of planning, the 40,000 square meter Europagarten was partially opened in 2023. However, the increasing effects of climate change are presenting the park with new challenges: Trees are dying and the lawns dry out in the hot summer months. The original plans from the early 2000s are no longer up to date, which is why the Parks Department now considers a fundamental redesign to be necessary.
