Now things are getting serious: For some time now, work has been underway on the now dilapidated Cassella Bridge, which was built in 1964. Piece by piece, the bridge has been demolished from the south to just below Hanauer Landstrasse. Now the work goes into the last round, because they are now so far advanced that the last section over the Hanauer Landstraße can be demolished.
From Monday, January 9, the demolition work in the area of Hanauer Landstraße and Cassellastraße, which will last until mid-March, will therefore begin. To ensure that traffic can continue to flow on Hanauer Landstrasse, the lanes will be temporarily shifted. The streetcar service in the vicinity of the construction site must be temporarily suspended, as the overhead lines of the streetcar must be removed for the demolition of the bridge.
The demolition of the bridge is necessary because during inspections of the ASE in 2019 it was found that serious damage affects the supporting structure of the bridge. After detailed inspection, it was clear that the bridge can no longer be rehabilitated and consequently must be demolished.
